Additional Information for Parents

As parents and guardians we need to remember that our teens are influenced by our driving habits. Driving at a safe speed, practicing defensive driving habits, and keeping a safe following distance are some of the most important ways to avoid being in a collision. Driving in this manner and teaching our teens to drive in this manner will help avoid collisions. To further assist parents in keeping their teens safe while driving, the following website is an excellent source of information:

  1. www.michigan.gov/sos (Teen Driver). This site explains the GDL system, documentation requirements, restrictions and consequences for violating them, Kelsey’s Law (mobile phones banned for teens driving on a Level 1 or Level 2 License), and facts about teen drivers.
  2. Parents may also go to “Teen Driving” on the Reader’s Digest website.
